Introduction:
This introduction to Fredericton’s historic York Street presents an exploration into an important aspect of our community. This is because built heritage is all around us. It shapes the word in which we live. It connects us to our past and stays with us into the future. While people will come and go, the built heritage of Fredericton will remain. It is what connects us as from one generation to another.

This series of activities are intended to encourage you to stop and look at the different kinds of buildings that can be found on York Street. In doing so, perhaps you will begin to see for yourself – and think for yourself – about what the past means to you.

York Street is part of your Fredericton; so the people who lived there are a part of your past. If you listen very carefully, perhaps you will hear their footsteps once again!
